Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- A Fort Wayne man was sentenced to spend the next 55-years in prison for trying to kill an acquaintance.

31-year old Carmell Nelson was convicted of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and being a serious violent felon in possession of a handgun.

In April of 2011, Nelson shot at Rovon Wilson seven times in the parking lot of Zambuca's Nightclub, leaving him paralyzed.

The shooting happened in front of Wilson's girlfriend.

The judge considered Nelson's previous convictions for drugs and battery when he handed down the 55-year sentence for the shooting.

Nelson must also pay $4,000 in restitution.
