Man Shot By Fort Wayne Police Office Facing Five Criminal Charges

Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- A Fort Wayne man is facing five criminal charges for his role in a chase where he was shot by a police officer.

18-year old Micquail Thomas is charged with two misdemeanor counts of resisting law enforcement and three felonies for pointing a firearm, criminal recklessness and receiving stolen property.

Our partner in news, the Journal Gazette, quotes court papers as saying Thomas pointed a stolen gun at the officer chasing him.

Officer Anthony Shefferly pulled Thomas's moped over at Hanna and Leith Streets for running a stop sign and not using a turn signal.

But police say Thomas ran, then started to point a gun at the officer during the chase.

Officer Shefferly shot him in the arm and rear end.

The handgun turned up as having been reported as stolen to the Garrett Police.

Thomas is scheduled to be in court Monday.
