ALBANY, NY. (www.incnow.tv) – New York has the toughest gun control law in the country.
Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law Tuesday, hours after it passed the State Assembly. It aims to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill, with a database. The law also prohibits sales of assault weapons; and restricts ammunition magazines to seven bullets.
People who own previously legal semi-automatic rifles can keep their weapons, but will have to register them with police. New York is now the first state to require a background check to buy bullets.
Some republican lawmakers say the law won’t stop mass shootings and could give people a false sense of security.
