(FORT WAYNE, Ind. ) www.incnow.tv -- If you're one of the nearly 38 million people who get mail delivered right to your door, that could change.
The U.S. Postal Service has been hemorrhaging money for years -- $13 billion lost last year alone.
Aside from suggesting cutting Saturday delivery, now a republican member of the House of Representatives from California is taking reorganizing mail delivery to another level.
His legislation would eliminate door-to-door delivery as a way to save the Postal Service $4.5 billion a year.
But for people with disabilities like Terry Haffner, losing personal mail delivery would be more than an inconvenience, it would be a hardship.
Haffner gets a medical exemption from his doctor for his letter carrier to deliver to his door.
And he says the Americans with Disabilities Act should apply to any changes to the Postal Service.
“I would assume they would have some sort of public hearings on this thing, too, maybe in different communities. That would bring out the people, at least, in Fort Wayne I would hope that would be. And you'd be there? I would be there front and center,” Haffner says.
Right now, Haffner gets a medical exemption from his doctor for his letter carrier to deliver to his door.
