FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Offenders usually serve about half their sentences. But a convicted Fort Wayne sex offender will serve about 85-percent of his, because of a 2008 law that's rarely used.
Our partner in news, the Journal Gazette, reports that 33-year-old Donald Hakes was sentenced to 55-years for molesting a 10-year-old girl.
But because he was classified as a "credit-restricted" convict, he will not be able to earn a day off for every day served.
Instead, he'll get one day of credit for every "six" he's behind bars.
The Journal says the 2008 law was enacted to punish the worst child molesting crimes.
Hakes was eligible for the restriction because his victim was younger than 12.
