FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The more people who sign up to recycle, the easier it is to keep trash collection costs down. That's what Fort Wayne City officials are saying. The City of Fort Wayne and National Serv-All split the profits made from recycling and that money goes to keeping costs down.

The city is also happy to report that more than 50% of residents have signed up. That's up from the estimated 34% of people who are recycling under the current, two bin system. Fort Wayne Director of Information Frank Suarez says he's heard of some residents signing up for the one cart program as the containers are being delivered to their neighborhood.

While this is appreciated when more people sign up, it also slows down deliveries. Officials urge you to sign up in advance by calling 311 or by signing up online at http://www.indianasnewscenter.com/news/news-links.

The new bins don't require any sorting. And people who originally had to take their dumpster to the alley and their recycling bins to the curb will now just need to take their dumpster and their recycling bin to the alley.
