SANFORD, Fla. (www.incnow.tv) - The date February 26th falls in the history books as one of tragedy. It was one year ago today that the community of Sanford, Florida was thrust into the national spotlight.
On this day last year, teenager Trayvon Martin was shot and killed. The gunman? Self-proclaimed neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman. As the case goes to trial, Zimmerman maintains he shot the 17-year-old in self-defense.
Initially, Sanford police decided not to charge Zimmerman. At the core is Florida’s stand your ground law. Tuesday evening, the Trayvon Martin Foundation will hold the vigil at New York’s Union Square.
