FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) Members of the Providence Baptist Church hit the Summit City streets spreading the good word by spreading the good book.

Crime has plagued the southeast side of Fort Wayne in recent months. Pastor Carlton Lynch says if people would learn the word of God, that committing crime wouldn’t be a thought.

Today he and other parishioners passed out about 800 bibles to folks on the southeast side of town. They surpassed their original goal 300-500.

People in the community including Judge-Elect Wendy Davis, Dick Freeland, Rick Stevenson and groups like Youth for Christ provided funding for many of the bibles.

Pastor Lynch says that before the message of Christianity can touch your heart, it must start in your hand.
