U.S. Veteran Francis A. Babbitt, age 86, passed away Sept. 28, in Ft. Wayne. He was born July 22, 1923 in Erie, PA to Arthur and Ruth Babbitt who have preceded him in death. Francis was a WWII Navy veteran and served on the U.S.S. Utica. His career after the Navy was as a Barber, in Waterford, PA. While living in PA he started working as a Painting Contractor. He moved to Ft. Wayne in 1960, and established Babbitt & Son, a painting contractor business he enjoyed until retiring in 1988. He was a member of American Legion Post # 47 and the V.F.W. South Anthony Post for many years. Leaving to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Loretta, two sons, Richard (Linda) of Anderson, IN, and Ronald (Terry) of Ft. Wayne, one brother, Eugene (Florence), of Sand Springs, OK; 5 Grandchildren, James Babbitt of Etoile, TX, Kristen (Doug) Pickleheimer, Amy Portee, Robert (Jennifer R. )Babbitt, Jennifer M. (Fiancé Tom Brookshire) Babbitt, all of Ft. Wayne, 9 Great Grandchildren, Anthony, Matthew, Kristopher and Cindy Pickleheimer of Ft. Wayne, Nikki Babbitt of Kingwood, TX, and Andre, Ravante, and Harley Babbitt, and Tory Portee, all of Ft. Wayne; 4 Nieces, and their families in OK. Francis was also preceded in death by his sister Esther Camblin and two Great Grandsons, Samuel and Simon Babbitt. Funeral Services will be Friday Oct. 2 at 11:00 AM at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Covington Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct 1, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.
