Komets Grab Cup In Third Overtime

By Dean Pantazi

(Fort Wayne) - Justin Hodgman ended the longest Turner Cup Final game 7 in history Monday night by poking in a rebound 27 seconds into the third overtime to give the Komets a 3-2 win over the Port Huron Icehawks and their sixth championship in club history.
Hodgman had put the Komets on the board first in the second period by scoring unassisted on a two on one breakway, and Guy Dupuis upped the lead to 2-0 later in the period on the power play.
But the Icehawks marked before the period was over when Jeff Zehr converted a pass from near point blank range to beat Nick Boucher.
And with 52 second remaining in regulation, Tab Lardner ripped a shot through a crowd past Boucher to force overtime.
They went through two overtime periods, with the Komets just missing on several game winning chances before Hodgman ended the long night by beating Larry Sterling, who stopped 57 of 60 shots.
The Komets will celebrate with their annual Fan Club end of the season party Wednesday night at the memorial Coliseum Expo.
