Blackmon Spurns Marion, Remaining at Luers

By Dean Pantazi

(Undated) - James Blackmon has turned down what was called a very lucrative offer to take over as boys basketball coach at his alma mater Marion.

Marion school authorities and boosters approached Blackmon, Marion's all time leading scorer from his playing days in the 1980s, about succeeding Joe Luce, who left for Richmond.

But Blackmon chose to remain at Luers, where he is 86-32 in five seasons, the last two of which have been 2A state title seasons.
