Byrd Named Michigan St. Team Captain

East Lansing (Indiana's NewsCenter)- Michigan St. basketball coach, Tom Izzo announcing on Tuesday that Blackhawk grad, Russell Byrd has been voted team captain by his teammates. Byrd and senior teammate Derrick Nix will be the two captains.

Byrd is a redshirt sophomore and has had limited playing time to this point in his career but Izzo says that he has demonstrated leadership abilities despite that fact.

Russell becomes the first sophomore voted captain at Michigan St. since Mateen Cleaves in the late 90's.
