HOUSTON, Tex. (21 Alive) - Former Fort Wayne Wizards manager Tom Lawless was named interim manager of the Houston Astros on Monday, replacing the fired Bo Porter.

The 57 year old Lawless, who played eleven seasons in the major leagues, was currently the minor league infield instructor for the Astros.

But in 2001, he was manager of the Wizards, going 23-31 before being fired by the parent San Diego Padres, the only time in the history of the Fort Wayne franchise that a manager has been replaced in midseason.

Lawless becomes the first Fort Wayne manager to get a big league managing job, which the Astros say he will be given a chance to keep permanently.
