IPFW Goes 3-1 In Track Duals

FORT WAYNE, Ind (21 Alive) - IPFW's track and field team hosted the IPFW Duals on Saturday inside the Athletics Center Fieldhouse, and the Mastodons went 3-1 in the meet.

IPFW defeated IUPUI 103-18, beat Xavier 80-63, edged out Butler 75-72, and lost to Detroit 110-55.

Kaeleigh Porter had a first place finish for IPFW in the weight throw, while teammate Kayla Zink came in third

Zink added to her notable day by winning the shot put. Her heave of 12.81m was the top mark this season for the squad and was also the tenth best in program history.

In the high jump, freshman Natasha Medic turned in a season-best performance for the 'Dons in her collegiate debut. Medic took second place after clearing 1.50m.

On the track, Brittany Beard out-kicked Xavier's Audrey Ramos over the last few meters of the one mile run to grab second place in a career-best time of 5:09.78. The time was also the fifth best in IPFW history.

Kayla Boyes placed third in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:25.07, the fastest time so far this season for the Mastodons.

Also scoring for the 'Dons was Rachel Zachar in the 5000 meter run. Zachar checked in at 19:06.56 which was good enough for third place in the event.

Kaylin Taylor just missed earning points for the Mastodons after finishing fifth in the 400 meter dash. Taylor's time of 1:02.59 was a season-best for IPFW and ranked tenth on the team's all-time top ten list.

The meet wrapped up with the 4x400 meter relay team, consisting of Kaylin Taylor, Alexis Wygant, Tori Nida, and Kayla Boyes, earning another IPFW top ten time. The quartet finished the race in fifth place with a time of 4:13.20.

The Mastodons are back in action on Saturday, February 1 when they host the Mastodon Invitational.
