SOUTH BEND, Ind. (21Alive) - The suspension of four Notre Dame football players as part of an academic fraud investigation was the elephant in the room Tuesday at Notre Dame media day.
While players were not allowed to comment on the pending probe, Irish head coach Brian Kelly did address what the past several days have done to the guys still practicing.
"The players were affected by the loss of their players as it relates to teammates; but not necessarily as it related to playing time," Kelly says. "Coaches, they're worried about the playing time element. Like, how am I going to be filling in for these snaps. I see it obviously as the loss of four kids that I care about. Our players moved on quickly from it, and we just immediately treat it as next man in."
During the media day session, Notre Dame showed off three new football uniforms that will be part of its rotation of games. The uniforms are made by Under Armour, as part of the university's new apparel deal.
The Irish will keep their traditional uniforms for most game, but have added a Golden Dome-inspired uniform for the Shamrock Series game with Purdue on Sept. 13 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
