INDIANAPOLIS (21Alive) - The 2014 football game between Notre Dame and Purdue has been moved to Lucas Oil Stadium.

The game will was changed from Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend to Indianapolis, as the intrastate rivalry between the two schools will no longer be scheduled annually.

The game will be played Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. on NBC33. The Irish will serve as the home team.

As part of Notre Dame's non-football sports relocation to the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Irish football will fill their schedule with at least five ACC opponents per year.

Additionally, a newly formed 14-team Big Ten Conference has moved the Big Ten to a 9-game league schedule.

As a result, the annual football game with the Boilermakers will be placed on a rotation. Notre Dame and Purdue will not play each other after 2014 until 2020 in West Lafayette.

The Irish and the Boilers first played in 1896, and have met every year since 1946. Notre Dame leads the all-time series 57-26-2. A Shillelagh Trophy has been awarded to the winner of the game starting in 1957.

The 1984 game was played in Indianapolis, and served as the dedication game of the brand new Hoosier Dome.

Notre Dame's always anticipated game with Michigan has also become a casualty of conference realignment.

Notre Dame and Purdue have scheduled additional games in 2021 at Notre Dame, 2024 at Purdue and 2025 at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick and Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke say the schools are working on match-ups after 2026.
