Detroit closer Jose Valverde started the ninth with a four - run lead and almost lost it. Kansas City scored three runs in the ninth inning before Valverde struck out Jeff Francoeur to end the game.
The Tigers have a winning record for the first time since May 10 th and their four - game winning streak matches their longest of the season.
