DETROIT (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Norwell alum Jarrod Parker and Oakland fell to Justin Verlander and Detroit in the opener of their American League Division Series.
Parker was tagged with the loss in a 3-1 Tigers victory, pitching into the seventh, fanning five, and allowing all three runs, including a solo homer to Alex Avila in the fifth inning,
Verlander gave up game leadoff homer to Coco Crisp, then settled down to shut Oakland out, striking out eleven in seven innings.
Game 2 is Sunday in Detroit.
