TinCaps Fall in Finale at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The TinCaps mustered just three hits in a 4-1 loss to the Bowling Green
Hot Rods, Thursday at Bowling Green Ballpark. Tommy Medica roped two doubles and walked.
Fort Wayne got on the board in the top of the second. Medica doubled and two batters later,
Emmanuel Quiles golfed an RBI single to left to put the TinCaps ahead, 1-0.
The lead was short-lived; RHP Zach Cates plunked Steve Tinoco in the bottom of the third. Kyle
Holloway followed with an RBI double into the left-field corner to tie the game at 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Cates walked the leadoff batter. Fort Wayne native Kevin Kiermaier
followed by beating out a potential double-play grounder for a fielder’s choice. On the next pitch,
Derek Dietrich smacked an RBI double to left-center to give the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead. RHP Deiber
Sanchez entered from the bullpen to allow a run-scoring single to Phil Wunderlich. Two batters
later, Tinoco doubled to the wall in center to drive home another run and make it 4-1.
Bowling Green LHP Chris Rearick went to work from there, retiring 12 of the 13 batters he faced.
Rearick delivered four scoreless innings and struck out five to notch his first save of the season.
Hot Rods LHP Braulio Lara won his first decision of the year, going five strong innings. Cates (0-1)
took the loss in his second pro start.
The TinCaps and Hot Rods each finished the day tied for first place with 5-3 records.
The TinCaps return to Parkview Field for a three-game series against the Great Lakes Loons (Class-
A Los Angeles Dodgers) beginning Friday at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Matt Branham (1-0) will
lock horns with Loons LHP Ryan Christenson (1-0).
