FORT WAYNE (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Everett Williams slammed a fifth inning solo home run, and Matt Lollis and three relievers made it stand up for a 1-0 win over the Great Lakes Loons Wednesday night in the opening game of the best of three Midwest League playoff series.
The TinCaps will take a 1-0 series lead to Midland, Michigan for Game 2 Thursday night.
Lollis repeatedly pitched himself out of trouble, fanning six, and stranding Great Lakes runner in nearly every inning.
When his six innings were done, Matt Branham, Stiven Osuna, and Myles Mikolas each turned in a scoreless relief inning to complete the job.
The TinCaps were the only one of four home teams to win a series opener Wednesday night, as Lake County, Cedar Rapids, and Quad Ctiy all won on the road to go home with 1-0 series leads.
