(AP) - The Texas Longhorns are the new number-1 team in
the weekly Associated Press top-25 college football poll. The
'Horns, who were fifth in last week's poll, staked their claim to
the top spot with a 45-35 win over then number-1 Oklahoma
Saturday. Following the Longhorns in the poll is Alabama. The
Crimson Tide received 26 first place votes, compared to 39 for
Texas.
Rounding out the top-five spots this week are Penn State,
Oklahoma and Florida.
The second-five this week features Southern California, Texas
Tech, Oklahoma State, BYU and Georgia. Off to its best start since 1965 and ranked for the first time in school history last week, Ball State moved up one spot to 24 th.
