ANGOLA (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Bishop Luers star running back-linebacker Jaylon Smith ended the suspense of his college choice Saturday night by committing to play at Notre Dame in 2013.
Smith made his announcement at the R A S Football Camp in Angola.
The 6-2, 225 pound Smith had been one of the most sought after players in the country and chose the Irish over the likes of Ohio State, where his older brother Rod plays, Alabama, and Southern California.
Smith, who will likely play defense in college, had 52 tackles, 18 for loss, eight sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery in helping Luers repeat as 2A state champions last season.
On offense, he ran for 1389 yards and 25 touchdowns, and added four touchdown catches.
He says the mixture of academics and chemistry he feels with his future teammates at Notre Dame made his choice an easy one.
