Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men’s basketball team visited the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone University on Wednesday night, where the 25th ranked Warriors overcame an eight point halftime deficit to knock off the defending national champions, 66-62.

In the second half, Tech shot 54 percent from the field, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, to outscore CU 41-29, while holding the Golden Eagles to just 39 percent shooting.

The Warriors moved to 12-2 on the year and 3-2 in the conference with the victory while Cornerstone slips to 9-8 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Cornerstone led for most of the first half and took a 33-25 lead into halftime. The Golden Eagles pushed their lead to nine, 37-28, at the 17:41 mark before Tech went on an 11-0 run to take their first lead since the game’s opening minutes.

With the 13:27 remaining in the game and the Warriors holding a slim 39-37 edge over the home team, the two teams went back and forth, trading the lead several times over the next few minutes before junior Jordan Hickman (Bardstown, KY/Vincennes) sparked a 14-4 Tech run with two 3-pointers on consecutive possessions.

The Golden Eagles had one more run left in them and cut the deficit to four in the waning seconds but Tech went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to seal the win.

Leading the Warriors was sophomore guard Jeff Hoskins (Kalamazoo, MI/Indiana Wesleyan) with 17 points. Hoskins hit on 6-of-10 shots in the game, including a season-high three triples. Hickman and senior Rodney Bartholomew (Port Sulphur, LA/Corning) also finished in double figures. Hickman scored 13 and dished out four assists while Bartholomew recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Chris Ware (Hammond, IN/Pittsburg St.) added nine points and nine rebounds off the bench.

The Warriors return to action on Saturday, January 7 when they welcome conference opponent Lourdes University in a 3 p.m. tip.
