HUNTINGTON (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A gamble that paid off and the arm and bat of Will Coursen-Carr brought South Side its first ever baseball sectional championship Saturday, done with a 4-1 win over eighth ranked Homestead in the 4A Huntington North Sectional final.
Archers coach Sheldon Van Pelt saved his pitching ace Coursen-Carr for the final, going with Garrison Bryan to pitch the semifinal game against Jay County, which the Archers won 11-1, helped by Corsen-Carr's RBI single.
Then Coursen-Carr moved from first base to the mound, and shut down Homestead, allowing just a first inning run that he wild pitched home.
Coursen-Carr's bat was also key in the title game as he singled home two runs.
Homestead had reached the final with a 2-0 win over second ranked sectional favorite Huntington North in the other semifinal.
South Side advances to regional play at Lafayette next Saturday.
