(Fort Wayne) - 6-7 Blackhawk Christian junior forward Russell Byrd, with two high school basketball seasons remaining, committed Friday to play college basketball at Michigan State.

Byrd, who averaged 14 points and nine rebounds as a sophomore for the Braves last season, chose Michigan State in the end over Michigan and Kentucky.

Byrd told Indiana's NewsCenter he had heard all he needed to hear from Spartans coach Tom Izzo and that he needed to wait no longer to make his college decision..

Byrd cannot sign with Michigan State until November, 2009.
