Flyers Avoid Sweep In NHL East Finals

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The NHL's Eastern Conference finals are
heading back to Pittsburgh.
The Philadelphia Flyers avoided a four-game sweep by building a
3-0 lead in the first period of a 4-2 triumph over the visiting
Penguins. Joffrey Lupul put the Flyers ahead 8:27 into
the game before Danny Briere and Jeff Carter added
power-play goals later in the period.
Jordan Staal scored twice in a nine-minute span of the third
period to get the Penguins within a goal. But Lupul clinched it
with an empty-netter in the final minute as the Flyers dropped the
Penguins to 11-and-2 in the postseason.
Game 5 is Sunday in Pittsburgh, where the Pens have won 15
straight and are 7-and-0 in these playoffs.
