Cubs' Marmol Escapes Injury In Wreck

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) - Chicago Cubs reliever
Carlos Marmol escaped serious injury when he was a passenger in a
car that was hit by a truck in the Dominican Republic early Tuesday
morning.
Marmol was with his cousin and a friend in his hometown of Bonao
when the accident occurred. He told The Associated Press in an
e-mail that the air bag deployed and he only suffered a cut and an
"inflammation" of the forehead. A Cubs spokesman says Marmol
needed seven stitches to close the wound.
Marmol was one of the Cubs' nicest stories this year, striking
out 116 in 87 and a-third innings while going 2-and-4 with seven
saves and a 2.68 ERA.
