Padres Pick Michael Collins As 'Caps Manager

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) The San Diego Padres filled the Fort Wayne TinCaps' coaching staff Tuesday, including the addition of Michael Collins as manager.

Collins, of Canberra, Australia, enters his third season as a manager in the Padres organization. Collins replaces Jose Valentín, who was promoted to Padres 1st base coach.

At age 29, Collins would also be the youngest manager in Wizards/TinCaps franchise history.

Collins comes to Fort Wayne from the Arizona League and a stint in the 2012 Dominican Summer League. He played 10 years in the minor league, spent mostly in Cedar Rapids. He was traded to the Padres system in 2009.


Pitching coach Burt Hooten, hitting coach Morgan Burkhart and athletic trainer Ricky Huerta will return to the TinCaps for their second seasons each.

The TinCaps also added Dan Bynes as strength and conditioning coach.
