FORT WAYNE (Indiana's NewsCenter) - First period goals by David Hukalo and Konstantin Shafranov 35 seconds apart put the Komets ahead for good en route to a 5-3 win over the Quad City Mallards Friday night.

Kaleigh Schrock and Justin Chwedoruk stretched the lead to 4-1 with second period goals, and after Quad City had closed the margin to 4-3, Colin Chaulk hit an empty net late in the third period for the final margin.

The win moved the K's within four points of idle league leading Muskegon, who they host in their final home game in March Saturday night.
