FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The TinCaps took an early lead Friday against Dayton, but the Dragons took
advantage of pitching miscues and Fort Wayne fell, 10-5.
Fort Wayne pitchers walked four batters, hit three and uncorked four wild pitches in the loss.
The TinCaps jumped on Dayton RHP J.C. Sulbaran in the bottom of the 2nd. Edinson Rincon
clubbed a two-run double to the gap in left-center to open the scoring. He moved to third on a wild
pitch and scored on a balk to make it 3-0.
Dayton sent nine batters to the plate in a big top of the 3rd. A double, hit batsman and walk loaded
the bases with nobody out. Henry Rodriguez drove in a run with a groundout, a wild pitch plated
Jordan Wideman and Byron Wiley’s RBI single tied it at 3-3. Chris Richburg singled home the
go-ahead run and Mark Fleury’s groundout made it 5-3.
In the top of the 5th, Wiley drilled a two-run homer to push the deficit to 7-3.
The TinCaps rallied in the 7th. Jeudy Valdez cracked an RBI double to left, then Nate Freiman
singled to chase Valdez home and cut it to 7-5.
That was as close as the TinCaps got. Dayton put up three runs in the top of the 9th. Wideman
ripped a leadoff home run and Richburg stroked an RBI single to cap the rally.
TinCaps RHP Dexter Carter (0-2) allowed six runs in 4.1 innings to take the loss. Sulbaran (1-0)
was the winning pitcher, giving up three runs in five innings.
Fort Wayne dropped to 5-4; Dayton improved to 6-3.
The TinCaps hit the road to take on the undefeated Lake County Captains (Class-A Cleveland
Indians) in a three-game series opening Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP John Hussey (0-
0) gets the ball against Lake County RHP Clayton Cook (0-0).
