Ants Fall at Home For Second Straight Night

FORT WAYNE, IN (December 23, 2011) –The Austin Toros beat the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 110-98 Friday night at the Memorial Coliseum. Every player made their way into the scoring column for the Toros en route to their win.
The Toros took advantage of a slow Mad Ants start and jumped out to a quick 10 point lead. Fort Wayne turned the ball over five times in the opening quarter, and Jamarr Sanders’ eight points for the Toros led Austin into the second quarter with an eight point edge.
Austin continued to stifle the Fort Wayne offense as the Mad Ants ended the first half shooting just 34 percent. The Toros opened up a 15 point lead midway through the quarter with good ball movement marked by 17 assists compared to just seven for Fort Wayne. Cameron Jones of the Mad Ants led all scorers with 14 first half points, but the Toros took a 13 point lead into halftime.
Fort Wayne’s deficit grew to 17 before Walker Russell poured in 17 third quarter points of his own to shave Austin’s lead down to eight going into the fourth quarter.
The Toros maintained control of the game, but the Mad Ants kept the pressure on cutting the lead down to just five points early into the final quarter. Austin quickly built their lead back to ten points and maintained that advantage until the final buzzer.
Jones led the Mad Ants with a game-high 25 points, and Russell followed with 24.
Terrance Woodbury and Justin Dentmon paced the Toros with 19 points each, and Dentmon also chipped in a game-high eight assists and six rebounds. Eric Dawson grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
