Briscoe Nabs Indy Pole By Narrow Margin

INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana's Newscenter) - Ryan Briscoe claimed the pole Saturday for 96th running of the Indianapolis 500 by the closest margin in the history of qualifying for the event.

Briscoe's four lap time of 2 minutes, 38.9514 seconds at an average speed of 226.484 mph in the 90 minute shootout for the top nine qualifiers topped the time of 2 minutes 38.9537 and 226.481 mph done by James Hinchcliffe, who wil start second.

The time differential of 0.0023 of a second is the equivalent of 9.168 inches over four laps, easily the closest margin ever in qualifying.

Ryan Hunter-Reay grabbed the third front row spot.
