DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (21 Alive) - Dale Earnhardt, Jr. outraced the field and the final wreck of the race to win the Daytona 500, 13 years after his father, Dale Earnhardt, Sr., was killed in the same race.
Earnhardt ran to the lead on the restart of the last of several late race yellow flags due to wrecks, and took the checkered flag as still one more wreck was taking place behind him.
The final 162 laps of the race were run after rain caused a seven hour delay after the early afternoon start.
Denny Hamlin came in second, followed by Jeff Gordon, Brad Keselowski, and Jimme Johnson
