Franchitti Gets Spinal Fracture In Spectacular IndyCar Crash

HOUSTON, Texas (21 Alive) - Three time Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti spent Sunday night in a Houston hospital and suffered a fractured spine in Sunday's IndyCar Grand Prix of Houston.

Franchitti's car went airborne with two laps left in the race when Takuma Sato's car slid and crossed into the path of Franchitti's car, which was launched into a steel catch fence.

Franchitti in addition to the spinal fracture also received a fractured ankle and a concussion.

!3 spectators received minor injuries from debris that flew into the crowd from the wreck
