(Fort Wayne, Indiana) -- The Komets used two third period goals to break open a tie game and went on the beat Kalamazoo, 4 - 2 in their final game of their first season in the ECHL. Both the K's and the K. - Wings failed to make the playoffs. The Komets finished 33 - 35 - 4, their first losing season in 16 years. After the game, Brandon Marino was named the team's Most Valuable Player as well as the K's "Mr. Hustle". Brett Smith also won two awards, the 5 / 30 Unsung Hero award and the Weigmann Family award for true spirit and positive attitude. The annual post - season party and jersey auction is Tuesday night at the Coliseum.
