OAKLAND (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Norwell grad Jarrod Parker pitched into the sixth inning for his fourth straight start, but ended up with his first major league loss in the Oakland Athletics' 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Tigers Sunday.

Parker allowed six hits and two runs in 5 2/3 innings, and left after issuing his fourth walk, with his third walk a batter earlier ultimately scoring what proved to be the winning run.

Parker fanned five and threw 112 pitches.

Parker's mound opponent was Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander.
