FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Tom Brady became the winningest quarterback in postseason play, throwing for three touchdowns Sunday, and seldom - used running back Shane Vereen scored three times, twice on receptions, as the New England Patriots beat Houston 41 - 28 to move into the AFC Championship Game.
Brady got his 17 th victory, surpassing his childhood hero, Joe Montana, by throwing for 344 yards. If Brady can lead the Patriots, 13 - 4, past Baltimore, 12 - 6, in next Sunday's conference title game and then win the Super Bowl, he'll equal Montana for NFL championships.
Vereen became the third player in postseason history to have two receiving touchdowns and one rushing score in the same game, according to Elias Sports Bureau. He joins Roger Craig (1984, San Francisco 49ers) and Ricky Watters (1994, 49ers), both of whom did it in the Super Bowl.
