Rookie Fastest On First Day Of Indy 500 Practice

SPEEDWAY (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Rookie Josef Newgarden logged the best lap on first day of practice for the 2012 Indianapolis 500 Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Newgarden ran the fastest lap at 220.250 miles per hour.

JR Hildebrand, the 2011 Indy 500 runner-up was next at 219.693. and rookie James Jakes followed at 219.286.

Tony Kanaan topped veteran drivers at over 217.7.

26 cars were on the track on the first day.
