FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Fort Wayne products Matt Clark, James Darnell and Cedric Hunter had big nights at the plate, but the Tucson Padres lost to Las Vegas, 13-8, Thursday in Triple-A action at Parkview Field.
Tucson jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the first. The Padres struck hard in the third; Hunter and Ali Solis, both Fort Wayne alums, smacked back-to-back doubles to make it 2-0. Two batters later, Logan Forsythe singled home a run and Kyle Blanks followed with a sacrifice fly to double the lead to 4-0. Clark drilled a two-run homer to right to run the advantage to 6-0.
The Padres were outscored from that point, 13-2. Danny Perales belted his first home run of the year, a grand slam in the fourth to get Las Vegas back into the game at 6-4. Tied 8-8 in the eighth, the 51s plated five runs including three on bases-loaded walks to take the lead.
Darnell went 2-for-5 and Hunter finished the night 2-for-4.
The Padres and 51s meet again Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Parkview Field. Post-game fireworks are on tap on Back to the Future Night; fans are encouraged to dress like Doc Brown, Marty McFly or even Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen (hoverboards optional).
