RECIFE, Brazil (21 Alive) - Thomas Muller's goal off a rebound in the 55th minute provided the only scoring as Germany edged the United States 1-0 in the final game of Group G play at the World Cup.

Despite the loss, the U.S. still advanced out of the first round with Portugal's 2-1 win over Ghana in the other Group G finale.

Germany won Group G with a 2-0-1 record, while the U.S. and Portugal each finished 1-1-1, with the Americans getting second place and the spot in the next round on a better goal differential.

The U.S. will next play on Tuesday at 4pm against Belgium, the Group H winner.
