FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Two weeks before the NFL kicks off the regular season, there are huge doubts if quarterback Peyton Manning will be able to play.
The Colts signed journeyman Kerry Collins on Wednesday, in what is seen as a just-in-case scenario for Week 1 or later.
The addition of Collins likely moves backup quarterbacks Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky down the roster.
Wide receiver Reggie Wayne questioned the Collins signing, while voicing support for Painter and Orlovsky.
"The Colts are big on protecting their own," Wayne said in the lockerroom at the Colts facilities. "I'm going to help protect our own."
Wayne later posted a blog on his website, ReggieWayne.com, reiterating his support for Curtis Painter.
"He's (Painter) in a tough situation with Kerry Collins being signed," Wayne wrote. "WE as an offense need to do whatever we can to help Painter look good."
Brad Brown, weekend sports anchor at WRTV in Indianapolis, gives more insight on the Colts quarterback situation on Sound Off.
