FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Study Elementary School students scored well enough on ISTEP scores this year to to move the school from a probationary rating to exemplary A rating.
In celebration of the school's success, former ABA and NBA star Darnell Hillman visited Study students Thursday to commend them for their work. Hillman, nicknamed "Dr. Dunk," is one of the most exciting basketball players from the 1970s. He spent most of his career with the Indiana Pacers, and won the 1977 NBA Slam Dunk comeptition.
Hillman now serves as Associate Director of Camps, Clinics & Alumni relations for the Pacers.
"Dr. Dunk" joined Tommy Schoegler and Kent Hormann on Sound Off to talk about his day in Fort Wayne; and to look back on his playing days, including his record-setting afro.
