FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - An annual impending sign of summer is the Mad Anthonys Charity Golf Classic for Children. Professional golf stars and celebrities get together each year to raise money for the Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House.
This year's classic, June 17-18 at Sycamore Hills Golf Club, will have some format changes. Fort Wayne native and LPGA star Amanda Blumenhurst will host the event. The 2009 Red Coat winner will lead a charge of 11 LPGA Tour golfers competing in a 2-day tournament with a $300,000 purse.
Eric Ottinger, president of the Mad Anthonys, joins Tommy Schoegler and Kent Hormann on Sound Off to talk about the perennial event. Ottinger says a third of the operations for the Children's Help House comes from Mad Anthonys. "We want to continue to promote Fort Wayne as an extreme golf town," Ottinger says. "This 300,000 purse does nothing but help our bottom line, and maximize dollars for our charity."
Admission is $20; and tickets are avaliable at Sycamore Hills Golf Club, Fort Wayne Country Club, Bobick's Golf Headquarters and MadAnthonys.org. Tickets can also be purchased at Sycamore the day of event.
