Sound Off: Notre Dame Media Day - August 16

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Notre Dame is set to open season No. 3 of the Brian Kelly Era. The Fightin' Irish held media day indoors Thursday, due to rain. While journalists were kept at a far distance, the Irish got a lot of work in.

Notre Dame may have the hardest schedule in years, traveling to Dublin for the opening game against Navy.

A top priority for Kelly will be naming a starting quarterback. Tommy Rees has been benched following an offseason arrest. That leaves Everett Golson and Andrew Hendrix in a tight battle. Kelly said Thursday the starting quarterback should start getting most reps come Monday.

Three Bishop Dwenger grads also make up this year's Notre Dame roster again. Tyler Eifert, a D not only grasps expectations as he lines up as one of the nation's top tight ends, but also looking forward to the NFL draft next spring. He says he has spent an offseason ramping up conditioning to take his game to that elite level.

Wide receiver John Goodman finds himself atop the punt returner depth chart. Goodman. Also, he is using his fifth year of eligibility to take the up-and-coming young talent under his wing.

Defensive lineman Tony Springmann looks to enter the fray for the Irish with the departure of defensive end Aaron Lynch. Springmann has been working through nagging injuries, but looks healthy at media day drills.
