MUNCIE, Ind. (21Alive) - Concordia Lutheran High School fell short Saturday in the IHSAA 3A Volleyball State Championship, losing to Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit in three straight games.

The Cadets kept the scores close throughout the match, merely losing by two points in each set (24-26, 27-25, 25-23).

Tionna Williams led Concordia with 18 kills.

After dropping the first set, Concordia led 23-19 in the second. However, Brebeuf rallied to win the second game, and put the Lady Braves in a favorable position to win the match.

"We had an opportunity today, and we didn't finish," Concordia head coach Tricia Miller says. "But our kids put themselves in position to win a state championship."

Brebeuf (3A No. 9) claims its fourth state championship in 11 years. The Lady Braves won titles in 2003, 2005 and 2009. They're the first state champion to win the title with 10 or more losses (13-12 in regular season).

Brebeuf's Sierra Witham won the Class 3A Mental Attitude Award.

A state crown still alludes Concordia, who has finished as state runners-up three times, including in the 2003 match against Brebeuf.

"Right now, the kids are in the toughest moment they've been in all season," Miller adds. "You win and you lose. It's about that fight. And we could never get over that hump."

The Cadets (3A No. 7) beat three of the Top 6 teams en route to the finals, including a sweep of 3A No. 1 Mishawaka Marian in the north semi-state championship.

"They have so much to be proud of," Miller says. "That's what it's about. That's why we play."

Concordia finishes 2013 season with a 29-9 record.
