NOTRE DAME, Ind. (21 Alive) - Former Bishop Luers star and Indiana Mr. Football Jaylon Smith says he is ready to take the leadership role for the Notre Dame defense next fall as Brian Kelly has said he would be asked to.

The 2012 21 Alive High School Football Player of the Year had two tackels and four assists in limited playing time in Saturday's Spring Game, as he was pulled early to avoid injury.

Kelly said later Smith is not a player he needed to evaluate much in the game.

The crowd had most of its attention on quarterbacks Everett Golson and Malik Zaire, who both did well, with Zaire having the better day statistically.
