PAULDING CO., Ohio (21Alive) -- Kneeling on the floor, 7-year-old Max counted all of his donations, scattered across his living room, Monday afternoon.

"It's overwhelming because this is just truly him," gushes his mother, Jessica Fohner.

Just a week before his birthday (August 30th), Max decided that he wanted to celebrate in a different way.

"I didn't want toys," Max said.

Instead, he asked his family and friends to donate dog treats, food, toys, bedding, and grooming supplies. He plans to take the donations to an animal shelter in Paulding County.

To get the word out to his grandparents, Max's mom posted a video to Facebook. Little did they know, that video would spread across the country.

[People have] sent money through PayPal, stuff has been shipped to our door, and we had a drop-off spot in Paulding," said his mother.

The family now has more than 300 pounds of dog food alone and if you still want to add to that total, it's not too late.

The family says they plan to deliver the donations on Friday, September 5th.
