FORT WAYNE, IND. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Charges against four of eight officers named in the federal civil trial stemming from a fatal police-action shooting in 2005. Have been dropped.
Officials say charges against the Fort Wayne Police Department "Entry Team" who entered the downtown apartment of 28-year-old Rudy Escobedo have been dismissed.
Escobedo's estate, the plaintiff in the civil trial, will now focus its efforts on the four commanding officers who gave the orders to enter.
Escobedo family members argue that officers used excessive force by using flash bangs and tear gas when entering the apartment.
Officers say Escobedo was suicidal and high on cocaine when he called 911.
