MARION, Ind. (21Alive) – Many in southeast Marion are stranded inside their homes this evening, after flooding closes down several roads.

Stone Rd. seems to have it the worst, with water four to four-and-a-half feet above the pavement. It doesn't appear that any vehicle is capable of making it all the way across. Unfortunately, several drivers tried.

“There's two cars out there, completely stuck” said Marion resident, Hannah Harmon.

The vehicles were just down the road. Water over the hoods and up to the windows, the cars stay stranded until the high waters go down.

With the street flooded, many residents are forced to walk through wooded areas and fields to get to higher ground.

In the past, rescue workers have used small boats to help stranded families get out of their homes. But for now, their only option is to make the mile-long hike back to the end of Stone Rd.
