ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- We're still waiting on new details about a traffic stop in June that raised questions about the actions of two Allen County elected officials.
Written statements turned over to the county ethics commission Friday haven't been released for media review.
Documents were filed with the ethics commission before noon, which was a deadline for paperwork to be turned in.
But the content is not known.
Allen County officials are still considering a formal request for the records to be released.
Allen County Republican Council Member Paul Moss was pulled over June 2nd, because an officer suspected he might have been drinking and driving.
A squad car video recording of the stop obtained by Indiana’s NewsCenter shows Moss and officers walking in and out of the picture.
During the stop, Moss called Sheriff Ken Fries, a move Moss now admits was bad judgment.
It’s not clear, however, if it figured into a decision that Moss be released without being forced to submit to a sobriety test.
A citizen filed a complaint later in June with the ethics commission, over how the incident was handled.
Then at a meeting last month, the ethics commission decided to give both Fries and Moss 30 days to file written responses, offering an opportunity for them to shed light on what happened.
Friday was the thirty-day deadline.
Allen County authorities called for a formal records request to be filed.
The county has 7 calendar days to decide whether the request will be honored or denied.
There's some question about whether the materials are confidential until the ethics commission next meets to address the issue in a public hearing.
We made attempts to contact Moss, Fries, and their lawyers to obtain the documents, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
The ethics commission is scheduled to take up the matter again on September 7th at 1:30 p.m.
